Had a small client recently that wanted to move from standard hosted email service (via WHM / cPanel based server) to Google Apps. In doing the Google Apps migration I found that they had a mix of POP3 and IMAP configured throughout the organization, so using the G Suite Migration for Microsoft® Exchange like I would for larger migrations that are based in IMAP only was out of the question. I found the Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Outlook® which was better suited for doing the job in this small mixed environment.

Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Outlook

• The first step is to backup the current Outlook data whether POP3 or IMAP to a PST file – Export or backup email, contacts, and calendar to an Outlook .pst file
• Make sure that the G Suite has matching user for the one being imported
• Download the Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Outlook® utility
• Enable Email Migration API in G Suite Advanced Settings:
  
• Launch the Google Apps Migration utility and sign-in to the users Google account:
  
• Select to use a PST file from the drop down list, browse to the backup PST that was previously created and select migrate all data:
  
• Select the data categories, date range if pruning, and whether to include optional items:
  
• The migration will then take place:
  
• Once done the import will be in a seperate “folder” in the Gmail account. If you want to clean this structure up a bit, it will require reconnecting Gmail to Outlook. There is some preparation to do for modern versions of Outlook and some security settings to change for older versions of Outlook (2010 and older).
