Case Study – Fixing a Wireless Blind Spot Before It Became a Compliance Problem

How a Medford foot and ankle practice went from dead zones and dread to full coverage and peace of mind.
The Client
A mid-sized foot and ankle practice in Medford, Oregon, with one location and multiple providers seeing patients every day. Like most small healthcare practices, their front desk, exam rooms, and back office all depend on a network that just works, quietly, in the background, so the staff can focus on patients instead of technology.
The Problem
The practice had wireless dead zones scattered through the office. Connections would drop mid-task, exam rooms would lose signal, and the access points causing the trouble had reached end of life, which meant they’d stopped receiving security updates months or years earlier.
The Weight of It
Staff had learned to work around it. Walk to a different corner of the office to get a signal back. Restart a device and hope. It wore on people in small ways, every day, the kind of friction that doesn’t show up on anyone’s radar until it’s been normal for too long. And underneath the daily annoyance sat a bigger worry: this was a healthcare practice, patient data was moving across that network, and the hardware carrying it hadn’t been secure in a long time. That’s not a comfortable thing to realize about your own office.
The Solution
When Farmhouse Networking took over this practice’s managed IT, a full wireless site survey and heatmapping assessment turned up the coverage gaps and the aging hardware in one pass. From there, our team deployed new Ubiquiti access points across the office, connected to Farmhouse Networking’s private controller so the network is actively monitored rather than left to quietly age out again.
The new access points support Wi-Fi 7, so the upgrade brought faster, more stable connections along with the fix. Most of the three-week project was shipping and hardware lead time. The actual cutover happened without disrupting a single day of patient care.
Life After
The dead zones are gone. Staff aren’t working around their own network anymore, they’re just working. And the bigger relief is the one that doesn’t get talked about as much: the practice isn’t carrying an unspoken compliance risk in the background anymore. The hardware supporting patient data is current, monitored, and secure.
“We knew our WiFi had dead spots, we just lived with it. We didn’t realize our old equipment was actually a risk until Farmhouse pointed it out. Now it’s just… handled. That’s one less thing I have to think about.”

Is Your Practice Carrying the Same Risk?
Aging hardware is one of the most common issues we find during new client assessments, and it’s rarely on anyone’s radar until someone goes looking. If it’s been a while since your network was evaluated for coverage, performance, or compliance, we’re happy to take a look.
